For my final process and production session with Sara we were given a task of creating a showreel that would show of our past years work what should include all of the years’ work in after in us after effects lessons and maybe some contextual work. I decided to have all my work from this lesson and a mix of contextual and some of Jays work.

This show reel contains: My AM logo, roto-scoping cheetah, C4D stipe abstract, man with beard, my geometric tattoo designs, toothless animation, C4D letters, Ex-Machina UI, 3D posters, The Hungry Caterpillar and finally my “MY LIFE” pixel animation for collide.

After creating two smooth moving sprite animations I decided to create two simpler animations that would have more detail in the scenes because I had more time to spend on the backgrounds of each animation.

This is my first experiment I create with a simpler more retro 8-bit animation by having the character jump instead of walking. I feel that animation looks good with less fluid motion because it complements the pixel theme, but I feel it can be a little more detailed in terms of animation.

Here is another experiment I created in a simple animation style for my collide project. I based this one on the first part of my final animation which is about me choosing my final choices for GCSE’s which would then lead on to me getting into the graphic design industry.Overall I feel this simple animation turned out really well and I feel that the background complements the animation style, I also feel that I will use this sprite in my final animation.

Here are two experiments I made for my Collide project which is based around my future self in a pixel form. I wanted to experiment with smooth animations in a pixel form to see what they look like as a looped gif sprite.

This is the first gif I created in a smooth animation style, I feel that it looks really good in a fluid motion but at the same time I feel it doesn’t suit the pixel theme.

This is my final experiment with a smooth transitioning pixel based animation, this one turned out quite well with the environment moving as well, but I feel the legs don’t look right and it looks a little “juddery”. Overall I like the smooth animation but I feel it would take too long to create a whole animation this way and I feel that it doesn’t go with the theme of the pixel based animation.

For my presentation for Rob for our end of year presentation in the pecha-kucha style with twenty slides I finished on a slide what shows some of my old work from my end of year show in college. I did to show another style of design I like to create which is photo manipulation on a big scale, for example big disasters and abandoned city’s. I felt these pieces belonged on my blogger because it shows the type of graphic design I am into.

This is the sign I created for my final year show in college for my Natural Disasters project which was based on creating big impact natural disaster posters. For the type of this piece I wanted to get all the elements from my four poster in the type by making each section of the type represent each disaster.

Here is one of my favourite posters which is based on floods on a massive scale.

This poster is based on earth quakes.

Here is a snow storm based poster.

This is another one of my favourite poster out of the four because of the airborne cow in the background which brings more of a comedic value to the image.

This is another photo manipulation I created back in college which is my college overgrown and abandoned set in the year 2142 where nature is slowly regaining earth as its own. I feel these posters are quite good considering I did them a while ago, but I feel my skills in graphic design has definitely improved in an artistic and professional sense. I also feel that I want to get back into photo manipulations because I had a lot of fun creating these pieces.

After doing some artist research into concept art I really wanted to try it out for myself, I knew it wouldn’t look very good compared to the professionals, but I still had a go. I wanted to create something like the image below because I felt it would be good to see If I could create something from the shape of this character.

This is the original image I based my concept art of which was created by Emmanuel Shiu.

I firstly removed the background of his character and lowered the opacity so I could get the right proportions of the character’s body.

I then started create an outline of my design which based on the shape of Emmanuel’s original design. I wanted to for a more angular Armor look for my design to be more unique.

I then added different shades of grey to represent different areas of my design, I did this because I needed to make sure I was making the right parts dark and light.

I then started on the long process of adding shading to each section of design to make the image look a lot less static and make it more realistic. I wanted to make certain elements stand out and look 3D, for example the triangular armour over the torso and the abdominal area.

I then finally added some light shading on the top of the helmet and some bolts on the shoulders. Overall I feel my concept art attempt is looking really good and I can’t wait to start adding texture and colour to it.

Here are some different logo rough experiments for our III studios graphic design company. I felt that would play around with the logo further to develop more of a symbol for our business, I tried to stay with the three sectioned shapes because I wanted the logo to represent three due to their being three of us.

These are the first rough sketches I tried and experimented with different forms of three through symbols and shapes. We felt that the best shape there is the 3D triangle broke up into three parts, we felt this because it had great 3D element and it’s a unique shape.

I then decided to develop this symbol in illustrator and give the logo concept proper gradients in the right places. I then started experimenting with different shades of greys and blacks. I also experimented with type placement and background colour.

We felt that the symbol looks really well but at the same time we feel it looks to corporate and static, we feel that we would like something much more minimalist so that it will be easier to have on all sorts of surfaces. We are most likely going to use it for the website design to show of our specialities through the different sections of the triangle.

Here is an experiment from me collide project which was based on using word clouds to represent things I find that makes me happy. I wanted to experiment with a 3D style of word clouds, which then develops into a perspective piece that I created in C4D. I feel it turned out really well and I feel the perspective look works really well.

Here is a simple test animation for my logo to see what it would look like as a moving image. I feel that the simple animation is okay but I feel that it needs some work and make it look more creative in an animation state.

During my conversation project I wanted to change my style of poster range I was creating, after looking into and experimenting with different styles I decided to go with a retro 1950s style with a worn look. After researching different artists, I came across Greg Maletic who has created amazing retro posters based on all kinds of things from transport to Disneyland art.

I really like how create 3D landscapes in a retro simplistic style well achieving a new vibrant look through the use of good colour choice. Overall I feel his work has defenitly influenced my poster outcomes through the general style and look of my posters.

Here are some examples of his work.

In one of the lectures on the Monday morning we watched a video of a designer Ryan Gander who is trying to find to show how anyone can be an artist in their own way and show it through in many different ways. In this episode of the Artsnight program he interviewed a couple who are in design them self’s, these are Max Lamb as a furniture maker and Gemma Holt as creative jeweller. They live in London and they have recently renovated a shell of an old warehouse to be their home and creative studio.

In the interview Max and Gamma go on to talk about how every part of their life is a creative act, from tidying to gardening. Everything in the house that they live is created by them and decided by them. Gemma goes on to talk about the process of living and working, and how it’s some ways really good but there’s never a switch of point therefore everything feeds into each other and becomes a whole thing.

This part of the program really made me think about what it would be like to be surrounded by design constantly and not have that switch of point when it comes to being creative or design something. I feel that it would be an amazing experience to literally live and brief design, but at the same time I feel like I would have to get away from it all and go out and see the world to let my mind free.

I’m really interested in narrative driven games and how they give the audience some form of compelling unique story to be drawn into, furthermore I’m really intrigued by what different people’s opinions they have towards a game and what they feel that it means. A good example of an interesting intriguing game is Sunset created by a Belgian studio called Tale of Tales, the game is an indie first person game that strives to immerse you with a complex narrative with a questionable repetitive gameplay style.

The game was released on May 21, 2015 and you play as an African-American housekeeper who is working for Gabriel Ortega in the made up country of Anchuria where she is visiting. The game gives you varies boring tasks that you have to complete in a single penthouse over a set amount of days. Players find that these tasks were very repetitive and completing these tasks came down to a click of a button. Players found that the less they cared about completing chores the more they cared about what was happening outside the window and the world around them.

Here is some great art work from the the game showing how alive and dangerous the outside world is compared to the peaceful minimalist house

Here is a screen shot of the outside world from inside the house where you complete meaningless tasks as the the outside world is falling apart due to the civil war

This is a great screen shot of the inside of the house where you spend all of your time cleaning and completing tasks. I feel its a great insight on the minimalist look of the rooms design.

Here is my developed UI for the EX Machina brief for the territory studios workshop. For this UI I had to model it of the poster for the film so I could get the Exo skeleton of the robot so that I could get accurate elements of the robot in a UI format. I feel that these UI stills look really good spread out in four layers to show the different parts of the robot.

Here is the poster I modelled the UI of for the animations and stills.

This is the robot in four separate parts showing what the robot is made up of, I also feel that this image could work really well as a poster to promote the film.

Here all the four layers put together to make of an outline of the all the elements this robot is made up of in a UI form, I feel that this could also be used as a portrait poster. Overall I feel that this is turning out really well as a UI, all that is left to do is to create a short animation with these layers on after effects.

This is an idea of what me and my two friends want to bring to life, we want to build up our own graphic design company called III Studios. We felt that this is a fitting name due to there being three of us with different skills, for example Zoe specialises in illustration and character design. I specialise in concept art and logo’s. Finally, Danny specialises in C4D and UI design.

We feel that this company could really take off and we could actually generate revenue from this business idea. We firstly want to start by creating a good portfolio for this company so we can eventually show of our work on our own website.

The idea behind this early logo design is to show our specialities in a triangle shape with three sections showing our styles of work. At the moment we are still developing the logo for more of a corporate use, so we are looking into simplifying this for business card, letter heads etc. overall we feel that this business idea could really take off if we are all committed to the business and we are generating really good work.

This is a still image from my collide animation which is based on my future self and happiness. I felt that this still image relates to Pete’s lectures in the sense of how his lectures revolve around the business side of graphic design and how we would go about having our own business in design.

This image shows me in the future working at my desk at my own company called III studios which me and two of my friends will own one day in the future. This still also shows me thinking further into the future because you can see in a thought bubble me thinking about working at a game company called DICE where I would one like to be working.

After creating all these different geometric tattoo designs I felt that I wanted to design one for myself in the same style. I wanted to have a tiger on my right forearm for so long, but I never knew how I wanted to look so after experimenting with different geometric tattoo designs I felt that It would look really good if I was to geometric design that would surround the realistic tiger portrait.

I also really wanted to implement a Penrose triangle shape because It really like that shape and how it is an optical illusion.

Here is my tattoo design I came up with in a geometric style.

The tattooed final piece.

These are my second lot of geometric tattoo designs I created using inspiration from other existing tattoo designs. I used adobe illustrator to create these animal based geometric tattoo designs because I felt that It would be the easiest program to create simple shapes and lines to make up different animals.

I decided to create a range of different simple geometric animal tattoo designs and developing my design through adding different shapes and creating more complicated designs by implementing realistic animals and objects. My favourite designs are the tree and the moth design because I feel that they look the best with the geometric lines and shapes.

Here are the six animal and realistic objects geometric tattoo designs.

These are my first geometric tattoo design I created using inspiration from other existing tattoo designs. I used adobe illustrator to create these symbol like geometric tattoo design because I felt that I would be the easiest program to create simple shapes and lines. I decided to create a range of different simple geometric tattoo designs and developing my design through adding different shapes a creating more complicated designs.

I feel that these design have turned out really well and I feel that they could have deep meanings behind them, for example the first design I created could represent moving forward and the two arrow on each side could represent people who are pushing you to be the best of your potential.

Here are the six geometric tattoo designs.

I’ve recently been getting into geometric tattoos and I have been looking into different artists that design these geometric tattoos. I feel that the tattoos artist I am going to talk about is one of the best geometric tattoo artists of our time due to her amazing integration of animal’s in her design and making them with a combination of straight lines, curved lines and dashed lines. Her name is Nouvelle Rita and she is a Portugal based artist Nouvelle Rita tattoos intricate lines in her black-ink animal tattoos. Devoid of shading or colour, these abstracted, Cubist-inspired creatures use simple shapes to produce complex geometric forms.

Here are some examples of Nouvelle’s work.
